CD Reviews: Grades

A+
Essential. Any serious record collector or fan of music
should have this work.
A Very good. This work should be
pleasing upon repeated listens and always reward the
listener.
A- Very good, with a few bumps. These
"bumps" are minor and may only be noted by the
most ardent fan. Otherwise, a worthy purchase.
B+ Above average. This exceeds the
expectation of a given artist and is a worthy addition to
any fan's collection. It may also serve as a good
introduction to that artist's work.
B Above average, with dents. It may be a
very fine work on its on, but stacked against others,
it's simply flawed.
B- Above average, with major dents.
While it may your favorite album, it simply doesn't work
or has its own faults on its own merits.
C+ Average. You can dig it, but, it's
not for everyone.
C Average. I shouldn't have to explain
average. The work has some fine moments, but not worthy
to return to many times.
C- Falling down. The artist is losing
its target. The work may have times, but nothing gels and
sticks to the ears.
D and below. These bottom-of-the-barrel
pieces of trash will be dealt with individually. Let's
suffice to say that if a record receives a grade of
"D" or below, then it is for completists only.
